Families in need!
Families in need! Gift Delivery December 14th!
Hello Mendenhall families. Leadership is “adopting” two families through the Brighter Beginnings organization. The families live in Antioch. We will be hosting a coin drive next week, December 9-13, to raise money to purchase gifts. In addition, gift items on their wish lists can be purchased and brought to school. Coins and items will be collected in 3rd period classes. I will deliver the gifts December 14th. I hope we can help these families this holiday season. Thank you for your support! Click Here for Wish List.

Clips for Cash:
Marylin Avenue School is currently working on their 13th Annual Toy Drive. We are in need of toys for children ages 9-12 years old. Please help by donating new toys for those in need this holiday season. Please send your unwrapped toys to the office by Wednesday, December 18th. Thank you for your generosity!
History Day Research
More than 50 Mendenhall students joined others from Pleasanton and Fremont to research their History Day projects at the Cal State East Bay University library on Saturday morning, December 7. On hand to assist the students were the Department of History Chair Dee Andrews, Head Librarian John Wenzler (PhD. in History), Librarian Liz Ginno, Archivist Diana Wakimoto, and several graduate students in History. Students had an hour of classroom orientation to the facilities before hitting the stacks and databases to look for information. The library was closed to other patrons for about half of the research period, meaning that librarians gave their full attention to middle school research needs. Students left with books, printouts of digitized documents, and even output from microfilmed sources. While students worked, Alameda County Social Studies Coordinator Avi Black spoke to parents about how to support their students with History Day. Teachers Robbie See and Julie Snyder also attended the event.

Make A Difference Day is a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. From October 18 through 25, 2013, students at Mendenhall Middle School have been planning and implementing community service projects in recognition of the National Make a Difference Day October 26th. Click HERE for our Press Release. See Below for a great Video produced by Ms. Fosselman's class.
Kids Against Hunger
On Wednesday, November 13, 2013 over 85 people participated in Kids Against Hunger in the Multipupose room. They assembled 10,000 meals packed with vitamins, vegetables, rice, and soy. The great news is that the meals will be going to the Philippines, a country sorely in need of food, and medical supplies. Great Job Mustangs!

Smarter Balanced Testing
Smarter Balanced is the system of academic tests that is expected to replace the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program tests in English–language arts and math beginning in the 2014–15 school year. The Smarter Balanced tests are based on the Common Core State Standards adopted by California in August 2010. Thirty-five Mendenhall 8th grade students participated in the American Chemical Society Element Poster Session this past Saturday, October 5. They created outstanding projects about a specific element and displayed them at the conference in Santa Clara. We had by far the largest showing of any schools participating and were the only school in Livermore participating. Our students handled themselves in a very professional and dignified manner at this event. It was a pleasure to see them shine.
