Mendenhall Recycles

Since November 2011, Mendenhall staff and students have been working with Livermore Waste Management and Livermore Sanitation to reduce the amount of garbage produced at Mendenhall.  Students are expected to separate items from their lunches and place them in the appropriate bins for trash, compost, and recycling, much as they do at home.  Even more helpful would be to reduce the amount of waste in general.  Here are some tips to produce zero waste:

78thGradeTeam_1stPlace_MMS8.JPG

The Mendenhall Mustangs swept the MathCounts Competition last Saturday at Granada High School, taking firsts in both the 7th/8th grade team and the 6th grade team, winning all top five individual bests in 6th grade, and taking five of the 10 individual bests in 7th/8th grade.  We were also the best-represented school at the competition, with a total of 53 MMS students competing.  We are very proud of our “Math Geeks” (as their district T-shirts proclaimed).  Keep up the great work!

Library News!

Have you heard about our reading program???

read.jpg

Let us fill you in on the exciting news!  Our students are on fire when it comes to reading.  At the beginning of this school year, Mendenhall School installed the online version of Renaissance Learning (Accelerated Reader).  The Administration, teachers and staff members bonded together to encourage students to pick up a book and read it from beginning to end.  You can see some of the progression of our results by following the Widget.  Our Widget displays the amount of books students have read to date.  It’s displayed on the right side of the Mendenhall homepage.

We are so excited about how well our students are doing that the Administration and some of the staff members have challenged all core classes to an AR SmackDown reading contest.   At the end of the second trimester we will tally up the points + the percentage of accuracy to declare the winners.  Prizes will be given to the top 5 teams.  The homepage will be updating the challenge results on the website so you can cheer your child’s team to victory.

BREAKING NEWS!!

Our AR Smackdown Challenge is on move.  The Unikornz are pounding down it's opposition.  We can't let that happen!  Who else is up to the challenge?  The "A" Team is and will prevail!  Are you all ready to Rumble?

If you would like to check your child’s progress, log onto the following website,

When you type in your child’s user name and password, you can access their reading record.

Incoming 9th Grade Transfer Process 2012/2013 School Year

The Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District is an Open Enrollment District.  This allows students to attend a school outside of their attendance area as long as space is available.  The Open Enrollment period for incoming 9th graders will be January 17 through February 3, 2012.  First priority for transfers will be students who have a sibling enrolled in the requested high school for the 2012/2013 school year.

High school assignment is by street address.  If you wish to make a transfer request, you may do so by obtaining the Intradistrict Transfer Form from your middle school office.  After completing the form, return it to your middle school office no later than 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012.  An update will be provided during the last week in February to those families who have made transfer requests.

The school assignments are on our District's website at www.livermoreschools.com under Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Which School Is My Neighborhood School?  If you would like to speak with someone, please contact Student Services at 606-3206 or 606-3207.

ATHLETICS 2011-2012

Middle School athletics are completely self-funded.  There are suggested donation amounts associated which would cover the athletic expenses for each sport.  Unfortunately, if the target amount is not reached through donations, the sport may be cancelled.  Click HERE for the 2011-2012 donation flyer.

All students planning on trying out for a sports team at Mendenhall must have a current athletic physical on file before tryouts.  Sports physicals are valid for 1 calendar year.  Click HERE to download of copy of the physical form.  Students must have and maintain a 2.0 GPA in order to tryout and participate in athletics.
