Welcome New Students 2013-14

We had an extremely successful incoming 6th grade orientation on Tuesday April 23 for students and their families. Skits were performed and teachers introduced themselves and their classes in a spirited way. The PowerPoint used for the presentation is available HERE.

Ms. Sambuceti and Mr. Bernal gave talks at Sunset and Smith to our incoming parents about what to expect when transitioning to Middle School. The talks were well received and we are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of dedicated parents coming to our school next year. Click HERE to download a copy of the PowerPoint used for the presentations.

ATTENTION ALL 6TH GRADERS - TDAP NEEDED

Get your pertussis/whooping cough (Tdap) vaccines now so there will be no delay in getting your schedule or attending school in the fall.  All students entering 7th grade must provide written proof of vaccination.  Notes from Health Services

Library News!

The Scholastic Book Fair has come to a close.  It was a fun experience for our students.  Thanks to all the parents who attended the fair during Open House.  If you are interested in purchasing items from our book fair, you can go to the Scholastic Book Fair site until June 6th.   Just log onto http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/wmendenhallmidsch.  You will receive your items through the mail and our school will get credit for your purchases.  Also, thanks to Alice, Jean and all the volunteers who helped me coordinate and run the book fair during school hours.  You are all so important to the success of our library.

For the next few weeks, students will be returning all their textbooks and library books to the library.  If you are having any issues regarding textbooks or library books, contact me at 925 606-4731.

We are still using the Accelerated Reading Program.  The deadline for taking AR quizzes depends on your child's core teacher.  You can check your child's AR progress by going to: https://Hosted283.renlearn.com/280958/HomeConnect.

It has been a fast and furious II school year.  I am looking forward to seeing students back in the library in the fall.  Have a lovely summer.

Pick up your student's Meds!

 Please pick up your student’s medication(s) from the Office by the last day of school, June 13th.  All medications need to be picked up by an adult. State Education Code 49423 and Livermore School Policy 5320 prohibit staff from giving medications directly to students.   After June 14th all medications will be discarded.
   State law (EC 49423) requires that these plans/forms be renewed each year.  Completing these plans during the summer with your student’s physician will allow for a smooth transition into the new year. The medication administration forms are available on the district website.  Please return these forms to school on the first day of classes, in August 2013.

LOOKING FOR STUDENTS WITH AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE

The Livermore American Indian Center serves Native students with free tutoring, culture classes, field trips, summer day camps and more.  Please contact the Center at (925) 606-4748 or email mputhoff@lvjusd.k12.ca.us

Digital Safety/Cyberbullying Tips for Parents

Much of the material presented to our community by the Livermore Police Department on Thursday, October 25, is now available for parents on our Website. Go to the PTSA tab and click on Resources.

Dress Code

LVJUSD is renewing its pledge to adhere to Board Policy 5332 and to that aim is asking all schools to strictly enforce the dress code.  To help us in that process, the district has changed some of its procedures.  They are as follows:

1st offense:  referral, required to change clothes*, and parent contact;
2nd offense:  referral, required to change clothes, parent contact, and possible detention;
3rd offense:  referral, required to change clothes, detention, parent contact, and conference required; suspension and school/community service may also be required.

Students will be required to change into clothing provided by the district.  While these changes are not significantly different from our typical practice, there are a few differences.  Previously we have not required boys to change out of sagging pants and have allowed students to change into PE clothes. They often have not received detentions or phone calls home.  We will step up enforcement, and parents, your support of this policy is requested.  Please help your children to dress appropriately for school. Click HERE for examples of appropriate and inappropriate guidelines.
