Mustang Athletics 2009-2010
Mendenhall offers a variety of opportunities for students to become involved in afterschool athletics. Some of the sports involve tryouts and team sizes are limited, others are open to all students who wish to participate. All students participating in or trying out for afterschool sports MUST have a current physical card on file with the Athletic Director. Student's physicals must be done in the same year the student is participating in the sport. It is recommended that if a student wishes to participate in sports, parents should try to schedule yearly physicals during the summer months since that physical will cover all sports for the year.
Parents or others who are interested in coaching any of these sports should check the LVJUSD website for job numbers and application procedures. All applications must be processed through the district office. Qualified candidates for coaching positions must: be over 21 years of age, clear a fingerprint search which must be filed with the district, take and pass a TB test, and have a current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Mustang Teams:
Boys Basketball -- 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade teams -- is a fall sport with the season running September-November. This is a tryout sport as team sizes are limited.
Girls Basketball - 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade teams -- is a winter sport with the season running December - February. This is a tryout sport as team sizes are limited.
Mendenhall is part of the Tri-Valley Boys/Girls basketball league which includes teams from Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton.
Boys/Girls Wrestling is also a winter sport with the season running December-March. This sport is open to all who want to participate. The wrestling league includes teams from Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton. In addition Mendenhall wrestlers compete in several weekend tournaments with schools from all over the East Bay.
Girls Volleyball is a spring sport with the season generally running from March-May. Mendenhall has two teams, and A team and a B team. Games are played with other Livermore schools. This is a try out sport as team sizes are limited.
Golf is open to boys and girls, and is also a spring sport with the season generally running from February to May. Matches are played at courses around the valley against schools from all over the valley. This is a tryout sport as team size is limited. Special fees may apply to play golf, in order to help cover the cost of green fees at practice and match courses.
Track is a spring sport with the track season running from March-May. Track is open to all who want to participate. Track meets include teams from many local schools. Track practice is usually held after school at Granada High School.
