Greetings Mustangs!!!!  I am Ivery Johnson, your School Counselor, for the 2009-2010 school year.  I am very excited about becoming a member of the Mendenhall staff and look forward to working with you and your families this year.  My role as a school counselor is to support the academic achievement of all students and to work with the staff, parents, and the community to contribute to the caring and supportive environment where all students can experience academic success.  The counseling services provided will address student needs in the following ways:

Academic Counseling – Grades 6-8, 8:15-3:05

• Review grades, test scores, attendance, and disciplinary records
• Organizational and Study Skills and Goal Setting Activities
• College and Career Planning
• Scheduling Concerns
• If referred by teacher, administrator, or parent. 

Personal/Social Counseling - Grades 6-8 (during lunch or after school)

• Conflict Management and Peer Counseling
• Problems at home or school
• Personal/social development
• Community resources and referrals

Mendenhall students may receive personal/social counseling during non-class time, unless there is an urgent issue, at which time a parent may be notified.  Please know that information disclosed by your child is kept confidential and is protected by privilege. With the exception of any circumstance when the student is in danger, or a danger to themselves or others. 

Parent Conferences – Grades 6-8, 8:15-3:05 or by appointment

• Discuss Star Test Results
• If your child is receiving 1 or more F at any report card period
• If your child has been referred for an SST (Student Study Team) Meeting
• Community resources and referrals

Parents of MMS students can schedule a conference to address any of the above issues regarding their student. Rotating Wednesdays at each site, with the 1^st Wednesday beginning at JAMS
